U2 Live On YouTube

Monday, October 26, 2009

It's been done before, but this monumental event is still downright amazing for me.

As I write, millions are logged into YouTube all across the world as they witness an event millions of miles away. This is probably U2's biggest concert ever, on so many levels. They're performing in the world's biggest stage for the biggest audience -- the whole world.

My Twitter is abuzz with what Bono is wearing, their latest U2 sighting, who is watching from where, what memories the songs bring. Because of this event, U2 is top of mind for the majority of net users currently online. I still can't get over how phenomenal it is that a million eyes from all across the globe is glued into one thing. It feels like for a fleeting moment, we're all sharing the same thing. Like everyone is huddled together in one place. I guess it's an overwhelming feeling of unity that I can't quite explain.

Bono sings the first few lines of the song, "...I have run, I have crawled. I have scaled these city walls. Only to be with you."

And the whole world joins in one song, "And I still haven't found what I'm looking for."

Facebook Redesign

Sunday, October 25, 2009

I haven't found anyone yet who is liking the new Facebook layout.

I don't see the point of having two different feeds, and having to switch between them. The highlights section is gone from the right panel as well.

I just find it confusing and unnecessary. I hope Facebook didn't shell out a whole lot of moolah for useless research and re-programming for this. Maybe I'll go join this group.

The Dark Ages - A Necessity

Saturday, October 24, 2009

I've been on the freelancing road for over 7 years now. Sometime early on in my career, I lost faith for a little while and tried to get into a corporate setting. I gave in my resignation after 3 weeks.

Five years into a lucrative and rewarding freelancing for network TV, the corporate bug tried to dissuade me once again. I wouldn't say it was a bad move, but my weight came down to 85
pounds by the time I resigned. And like a war veteran who's been exposed to ugly, violent things -- my spirit was crushed.

It took 2 months, and the entire RPG The Witcher, before I decided to get off my bum.
In contrast, the 10-month corporate setting I did taught me what I am NOT. I'm not an office manager. I'm not a corporate lackey. I'm not adept at excel sheets. I'm not a budgeter. Knowing my limitations, through this endless struggle for survival during my Dark Ages, shed light on what it IS that I am capable of doing. I excel as a video producer. I excel in creating out-of-the-box concepts. I excel in supervising creative teams. Etc.

SO if you do find yourself stuck in a rut and dragging your feet towards that Bundy clock to start a day that you know you will regret, maybe this experience is a necessary evil. It took a period of darkness for me to shed light on my career path. Maybe the same goes for you.

Google Knows...

Friday, October 23, 2009

I'm a big Google fan. I utilize the calendar, I have a load of documents shared with other users, I tweak, I personalize, I try Labs, I deserted the Fox and switched to Chrome.

And during my Gmail exchange with a friend, I never realized just how intuitive...or freaky...Google actually is. I was trying to schedule a meeting with a friend, when I noticed this:

It picked out our potential meeting, and suggested it to Google Calendar! How does it do that?!

So, uh, do you think they're watching all the time? :-S

Real Gaming Invades Facebook

Thursday, October 22, 2009

A prominent game developer is finally recognizing Facebook as a legitimate portal.

Facebook has successfully made gamers out of non-gamers, it has become a Mecca of potential gaming addicts. I've had to "hide" so much application updates from my news feed, because I've grown quite tired of being bombarded with requests to plant trees, buy recipes, recruit Mafia, eat a hamburger, and whatever procrastination agent everyone is hooked on.

This application, however, is something that gamers who happen to have an FB account will probably rave about. They're on the lookout for beta testers now over at their FB fan page. Hopefully, it will turn out to be more exciting than literally watching 2D plants grow (and then harvesting them).

Nokia Can Diagnose Bad Breath?

Sunday, March 1, 2009

No need to dial emergency on this phone. Simply breathe into it, and get an instant diagnosis.

I don’t think Nokia’s out to replace our doctors just yet. But this will sure save a couple of bucks in blood tests and medical consultations.

According to UK developers Applied Nanodetectors Ltd, this phone is equipped with a chip that has sensors to detect gases like ammonia and carbon dioxide. When you give this unit a little “Hah!”, the chip then calculates the density of gases you’ve unleashed. The results are then matched to with characteristics of certain diseases. They say this chip can detect asthma, diabetes, even lung cancer.

So for avid smokers, stay on the lookout for this phone. Coz Nokia may just save your life.

BBC.co.uk Personalized

Saturday, February 28, 2009

Since when did the BBC site become personalized?bbc

I’m a big fan of personalizing the net. My Netvibes is my friend. I can’t deal with multiple tabs on my browser, and a cluttered bookmarks folder. All the sites I read are all aggregated in my Netvibes page, categorized accordingly. That’s my surfing OC-ness.

So I have a feeling I will soon become a fan of BBC.co.uk, only because I can design their homepage my way.

I’m lovin’ this. Any other Ajax-powered sites out there? I’d love to see tech site or gaming site that is presented like this.
